This unique piece has a large Detroit City Agate, alternately referred to as fordite, mounted on a copper plate which has been repeatedly stamped with the letter "D" for the big D of Detroit. The Detroit City Agate is partially encased in fine silver, and 2 sterling silver prongs.
The Detroit City Agate, or fordite, is not truly a stone, but instead many many layers of automobile paint layered on top of one another. Fordite is harvested from the corners and walls of old Ford Motor plants where the vehicles were painted. These chunks of multicolored paint are then cut down, shaped and polished and have been taken on the names fordite or Detroit city agates.
